After walking along the steep paths of Val Rosandra and the narrow lanes of old Bagnoli (Boljunec), stop at the trout farm and havea look at its natural tank in the fresh waters of the Rosandra stream.

in the province of Trieste, bee-keepers are associated in a consortium offering products of excellent quality. The various types of honey, e.g. lime or the typical "polyflora" honey (tavžentrože) from Carso, are real specialities with an international reputation.

The church of Hrastovlje

The church of Hrastovlje a Romanesque church, protected by a thick wall, preserves the impressive Danza macabra, a typical and well-preserved fresco of the European culture at the end of the Middle Ages. Frescoes of surprising beauty, painted at the end of the XV century by the great Istrian artist Giovanni da Castua, decorate the interior of this austere temple.

Socerb castle

Socerb castle built on the top of a steep rock, this medieval castle is a spectacular belvedere on the Trieste gulf and the valleys of Istria. Not far from it, sveta jama (the holy cave), the upper part of which is the only underground sanctuary visited by pilgrims.

Carso stonehouse

Carso stonehouse typical Carso stonehouse, which is the construction material par excellence on the Carso. This house is one of the most interesting examples of Carso architecture. It has been converted into an ethnographic museum dedicated to ancient customs, handed down to our time. This house is the main setting for the 'nozze carsiche' (kraška ohcet), the Carso wedding that is repeated as a ritual every two years at the end of August representing a real wedding according to the oldest traditions.

Church of Monrupino (Repentabor)

Church of Monrupino (Repentabor) the picturesque fortified village, all alleys and stairways, is dominated by a XVI-century church, a pilgrim destination for centuries, built on the top of the rock. At the time of the Turkish invasions it was used as a sanctuary for the inhabitants and their cattle. This is one of the better preserved examples of this type of medieval fortification in Europe.

Trieste and literature
